During Pickett’s 100th year anniversary celebration they donated various products to the Fire Support Team that were raffled off at the anniversary party. All monies collected were donated to the City of Brooksville Fire Support Team. In addition, beginning on June 26 and throughout the month of July, customers were encouraged to “round-up” their total to the nearest dollar at the time of purchase.
This donation supports Pickett’s endeavor to support the local Ace community and to enhance their vision of being "The Helpful Place" in the community and frequently choose to give back to those that support them.
All proceeds will be used to support the Fire Department and the Fire Support Team that not only exists to respond to and mitigate emergencies but also to act as their community's primary risk reduction entity. The “volunteer" Fire Support Team that is made up of people who desire to provide non-emergency services. Volunteers may participate in their specific areas of interest, including but not limited to public education, special events, incident rehabilitation, natural disaster/emergency preparedness and recovery, departmental programs, fire hydrant maintenance, equipment maintenance, and fire prevention.
In the fire service, this approach to community safety and prevention has been termed "Community Risk Reduction." The Community Risk Reduction’s purposes is to respond to emergencies after the fact and to prevent or reduce the effects of their occurrence in the first place. Meaning the fire service acts proactively as a risk reduction entity for the community. As a result, BFD has already adopted some prevention/awareness programs that we are actively supporting and promoting.
These programs currently are:
- Firefighter Cancer
- Elderly Fall Prevention
- Mental Health Awareness
- Breast Cancer Awareness
- Suicide Prevention Program
- Campaign against Drinking and Driving
- Campaign against Driving and Texting
- Drowning Prevention Program
- Drug Prevention Program
