Brooksville, Florida (November 9, 2023) – On November 4, 2023, the City of Brooksville hosted a volunteer clean up event at the Brooksville cemetery located at 1275 Olmes Rd. in Brooksville, Florida. This historic cemetery dates back to 1845, with the oldest marked grave being that of Jane Hope, an early settler. Brooksville cemetery consists of 51 acres shaded by large oak trees and laid to rest there are over 5000 souls.
Volunteers were encouraged to come help ‘uncover history’ as they recovered grave markers throughout the historic garden section of the cemetery. Relatives of those laid to rest in the section were encouraged to attend. The event was well attended, and city staff provided volunteers with all the necessary tools needed.
